A Very English Choral Evensong
Name:
A Very English Choral Evensong
Date:
May 19, 2019
Time:
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Healdsburg, CA will be offering A Very English Choral Evensong to the community on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 5 p.m. With the hectic pace of modern life, we felt it was a good time to offer an opportunity to turn off the outside world and allow people to connect with their inner, more spiritual world. It won’t feel like a Sunday morning service! There is no Sermon or Eucharist.
The centuries old service of Evening Prayer focuses on the Psalms and Canticles, and uses the beauty of music to help us set our lives in a quieter place of self-reflection, if only for a little while. Although Evensong is a choral office mostly sung by the choir, the congregation also participates actively in the prayers and hymns.
The Choir will sing the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in c by George Dyson, A Hymn to St. Cecilia by Herbert Howells, and O Taste and See by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Paul Blanchard will play Vaughan Williams’ Prelude on Rhosymedre and Howells’ Psalm Prelude No. 2 (Second Set) as opening and closing voluntaries. And of course, we will sing some great hymns!
We hope you will join us for this service that is growing in popularity among millennials in Britain. ( https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/12176998/Looking-for-Britains-future-leaders-Try-evensong.html )
St. Paul’s is only a block off the Square, so you can come for the service and stay for an early dinner downtown!
