St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Healdsburg, CA will be offering An Early Music Evensong to the community on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 5 p.m. We will be featuring the music of Late Renaissance & Early Baroque composers Scheidemann, Lassus, Ingegneri, Cruger, Isaac/Bach. We hope people will be able to turn off the outside world and connect with their inner, more spiritual world. It won’t feel like a Sunday morning service! There is no Sermon or Eucharist.
St. Paul’s Choir will sing a unique setting of the Magnificat by Heinrich Scheidemann where the choir and the organ alternate on the different verses. The Nunc Dimittis is based on one of Orlande de Lassus’ most famous chansons, Mon coer recommande à vous. We will also sing O bone Jesu by Ingegneri, Psalm 103, and Consider by contemporary composer Roland Martin, featuring Jim McCammon on clarinet. And of course, we will sing some great hymns. Paul Blanchard will play two of Scheidemann’s organ pieces for the voluntaries: Dixit Maria ad Angelum (after Hassler) with Jim McCammon on clarinet and Galliarda in D minor.
St. Paul’s is only a block off the Square, so you can come for the service and stay for an early dinner downtown!
