About the Chorus
The Healdsburg Chorus is a group of about 70 members of all ages from all over Sonoma County who share a love of singing.  The Chorus has been in existence for 30 years and has grown in size and quality under its two past directors.  There are currently about 20-24 Tenors & Basses and 46-50 Sopranos & Altos.  In years past, simple auditions were required before joining the Chorus but more recently auditions have not been required.   The Chorus year consists of two concert seasons:  Christmas program (December) and Spring program (April).  Usually there are 3-4 public (for paid ticket-holders) concerts each season, preceded by 2-3 “practice” concerts offered to private communities at their venues.   The Chorus rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Healdsburg Community Church, starting at the end of August through mid-December, and again from early January through the end of April.  Additional one-hour rehearsals are scheduled as concert time nears.  The calendar for all rehearsals and performances is planned approximately 6 months to one year in advance.

Position Description
The Healdsburg Chorus is seeking a piano accompanist who will be attentive, cheerful, enthusiastic, and versatile in piano accompaniment of solos, small groups, and the full chorus.  The accompanist will work closely with the director to produce programs that challenge the Chorus and please the audience.  The accompanist will be prepared for and responsible for accompanying all scheduled rehearsals and performances.  The accompanist will be willing to participate with passion in accomplishing the vision of the Healdsburg Chorus.  A rigorous practice schedule will likely be required.

Overview of Duties
Works closely with the director and board to produce the twice per year concert seasons of the Healdsburg Chorus, including accompaniment of:
  • 10-12 songs of the full chorus each season
  • Auditions for solos and small groups (music for approximately 5-10 auditions per season)
  • Two-hour weekly rehearsals of the full chorus (additional one-hour rehearsals as concerts near)
  • Additional rehearsals with selected solos and small groups as they learn their music
  • Attending monthly board meetings
Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Be prepared to accompany 10-12 songs by the first rehearsal of each season for the full chorus.  The songs are selected by the director.  This could take 8-12 hours before the beginning of each season, and additional practice time to perfect the music and adjust to the needs of the chorus.  (Also prepare several Christmas carol accompaniments for audience participation at the Christmas concerts, again selected by the director.)   Songs are chosen usually during the summer for both seasons so that is the recommended prep time.
  2. Be prepared to rehearse with and audition 5-10 solos and small groups of singers.  Usually, 3-5 of the auditioning groups are selected to perform in the program.  These solos and small groups will need extra rehearsal time before the concerts begin, likely 1-2 hours total per group.
  3. Accompany weekly two-hour rehearsals, 6:30-8:30 every Monday night from the end of August through mid-December and from the beginning of January to the end of April, including holiday Mondays.   These rehearsals are scheduled a year in advance.
  4. 3 or 4 additional one-hour rehearsals each week as concerts near.  These have traditionally been scheduled on Wednesdays or Thursdays, and always scheduled in advance.
  5. 2-4 concerts at private venues in Healdsburg and Santa Rosa help the Chorus prepare for the public concerts each season.  These performances are often held at senior living facilities and are attended by anywhere from 30-100 people, depending on the facility.
  6. 3-4 public concerts of the full program at venues in Healdsburg and Santa Rosa.  Tickets are sold for these performances.  Attendance for the public concerts has been in the 750-900 attendee range for each season.
  7. Possible extra community service events – there have been short fundraising concerts, Christmas caroling events, singing of the National Anthem, for example, and the Chorus is often approached to perform at community events.
  8. Board meetings, one per month, usually on the second or third Tuesday, 6:30-8 pm.
  9. Chorus social events (optional)

Required Education, Training, and Experience:
Has earned a degree in music with piano training or has equivalent experience.
Has worked as an accompanist for choral groups of all sizes:  solos, small groups, full chorus.

$12,000 per year
