All Illusions Must Be Broken w/ Director Jef Sewell in Conversation

Join True West for a special screening of the documentary All Illusions Must Be Broken, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Jef Sewell. All Illusions Must Be Broken puts a modern lens on the work of American cultural anthropologist Ernest Becker whose book The Denial of Death won the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction in 1974. Using Becker’s brilliantly conceived framework, the film examines unexpected consequences that stem from the increasing dominance of virtual spaces over our natural environment. Part film essay, part verité study, the narrative interweaves Becker’s profound insights, contemporary interviews on the re-patterning power of screens, and scenes from a boyhood ages birth to 13. This event is presented in conjunction with Little Saint’s screening of Laura Dunn’s film Look and See: A Portrait of William Berry, followed by a conversation with Laura Dunn and executive producer Nick Offerman on Saturday, March 22.
