Creative and Brand Assistant

The Bishop's Ranch
Job Description

Position Overview

The Creative & Brand Assistant provides hands-on creative and design support for The Bishop’s Ranch’s communications, marketing, events, philanthropy, and community engagement efforts. Working closely with the Director of Engagement, this person will help translate ideas and stories into compelling visual materials that reflect The Ranch’s distinctive sense of place, hospitality, and mission.

This is a creative role for someone who enjoys taking an idea and figuring out how to bring it to life. The successful candidate will have a strong visual eye, excellent Canva skills, good design instincts, and the initiative to suggest ideas and approaches rather than simply waiting for instructions.

The position will work within The Ranch’s established brand identity while helping it evolve in fresh and creative ways. The Director of Engagement will provide overall creative direction and final approval for public-facing work.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Design & Production

  • Design polished materials for print and digital use, including flyers, postcards, invitations, signage, event materials, email graphics, social media graphics, presentations, and other communications.

  • Turn concepts, copy, photographs, or creative direction into finished visual pieces.

  • Develop creative concepts and propose new visual approaches that strengthen The Ranch’s communications and storytelling.

  • Adapt existing designs and materials for different formats, audiences, and platforms.

  • Create simple social media Stories, Reels, and other visual content as needed.

  • Prepare files for printing and coordinate with printers and other vendors when appropriate.

  • Assist with photography and visual content gathering around The Ranch as needed.

  • Maintain organized files, templates, and design assets.

  • Edit and proofread provided copy for clarity, consistency, spelling, and basic grammar.

  • Submit outward-facing creative work to the Director of Engagement for review and approval before publication or production.

Brand & Visual Identity

  • Help maintain a consistent and recognizable Ranch visual identity across digital, print, event, and guest-facing materials.

  • Bring creativity and fresh ideas while working within established brand standards.

  • Help identify opportunities to improve the visual presentation of The Ranch’s communications and guest experience.

  • Assist with signage, displays, and other visual elements that contribute to the look and feel of The Ranch.

  • Help ensure that the visual expression of The Ranch reflects its mission, sense of place, hospitality, and community.

Creative Support for Engagement

  • Provide design support for fundraising campaigns, newsletters, programs, camps, events, and community engagement initiatives.

  • Create visual materials that help tell stories about guests, volunteers, staff, the land, and the mission of The Ranch.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Engagement on campaigns and communications projects from concept through completion.

  • Support other Ranch departments with creative projects when appropriate and as priorities allow.

  • Help develop creative assets for new programs, events, and revenue-generating initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Engagement and Business Manager.

Ranch Bookstore & Merchandise

  • Research and recommend merchandise that fits The Ranch’s identity and guest experience.

  • Help develop Ranch-branded products, including apparel, hats, mugs, stickers, stationery, gifts, and other items.

  • Research vendors, pricing, minimum quantities, production timelines, and retail margins.

  • Develop or adapt artwork for approved merchandise.

  • Request samples and quotes and present recommendations to the Director of Engagement.

  • Coordinate approved merchandise orders with vendors through production and delivery.

  • Help maintain an attractive, current, and mission-aligned selection of bookstore merchandise.

What We’re Looking For

Canva experience is required. We are looking for someone who can independently create polished, professional work in Canva, not someone learning the platform on the job.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is helpful, particularly for more advanced design, photo editing, or print production.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a strong visual sense and excellent design instincts.

  • Is proficient in Canva.

  • Enjoys transforming an idea or goal into a creative finished product.

  • Is comfortable proposing ideas and presenting creative options.

  • Understands how to work within an established brand while bringing originality and fresh thinking.

  • Can take a project from concept through completion.

  • Is organized, reliable, and attentive to detail.

  • Can manage several small projects and meet deadlines.

  • Can receive feedback, make revisions, and collaborate comfortably within a review and approval process.

  • Is curious, resourceful, and willing to take initiative.

  • Has strong proofreading and editing skills.

  • Is comfortable researching products, vendors, and creative resources.

  • Experience with photography, short-form video, print production, retail merchandise, or nonprofit communications is a plus.

Schedule & Work Environment

This position is approximately 5–10 hours per week, with hours varying based on projects and seasonal needs.

Much of the work can be completed on a flexible schedule, although regular time onsite at The Bishop’s Ranch is encouraged. Being onsite helps the Creative & Brand Assistant understand the guest experience, gather photographs and visual content, review signage and materials, collaborate with staff, and develop a strong feel for The Ranch’s unique sense of place.

This role may be a good fit for someone balancing freelance work, school, family commitments, or another part-time position.
