Healthcare Foundation hosts 2023 Wetzel Awards honoring individuals who embody exceptional leadership in support of health equity in northern Sonoma County

October 10, 2023
The Healthcare Foundation Northern Sonoma County is pleased to honor this year’s recipients of its annual Wetzel Community Leadership Award and the Spirit of Wetzel Award at a celebratory breakfast reception and ceremony at Healdsburg’s Dry Creek Kitchen on Thursday, November 2, at 8:30 am.

Each year, the Healthcare Foundation presents the Wetzel Awards to honor individuals, couples, and families who demonstrate extraordinary community leadership and service in strengthening health and wellness in our region. The recipients of this year’s Wetzel Community Leadership Award are Ari and Dawnelise Rosen, and the recipient of this year’s Spirit of Wetzel Award is Dr. Daniela Domínguez. All three are examples of how we can each make a positive impact on the health and well-being of our community.

Wetzel Community Leadership Award recipients Ari and Dawnelise Rosen are local community leaders and successful restaurateurs, and the visionary co-founders of Corazón Healdsburg. The start of 2011 of Scopa Has a Dream (officially launched as Corazón Healdsburg in 2016) was a bold, much-needed initiative to address the disparities and inequities facing Healdsburg’s substantial, mostly low-income Latino population. Today, Corazón is a thriving hub of activity, supporting and creating greater opportunities for thousands of low-income families and individuals through a range of programs, direct services, community engagement, and disaster relief. (Read more about Ari and Dawnelise Rosen on the Healthcare Foundation website here.)

Spirit of Wetzel recipient Dr. Daniela Domínguez is an Assistant Professor at the University of San Francisco and the Chief Executive Officer at On the Margins, LLC. She is a licensed psychologist and professional clinical counselor with a special interest in liberation psychology, anti-racism, migrant justice, and gender and sexuality matters. Her program of research has focused on understanding how Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) cope with stress and use specific strategies to draw upon resiliencies to achieve positive health. “It is a great pleasure for us to be able to recognize three people for whom we have long had enormous respect as imaginative, talented experts in their fields and huge-hearted members of our community,” said Healthcare Foundation Board Chair Courtney Cochran. “The organizations that our Wetzel Award recipients founded, Corazón Healdsburg and On the Margins, respectively, are outstanding champions of health equity for our region and have been essential community partners of the Healthcare Foundation.”

The 2023 Wetzel Awards is sponsored by Alexander Valley Vineyards, Costeaux French Bakery, Eddinger Enterprises, and Healdsburg Running Company.
