The Hand Fan Museum of Healdsburg to reopen with new digital learning space, discovery center and exhibition, Fans in Bloom.

The Hand Fan Museum of Healdsburg, CA announces its reopening on March 16th, 2023. A reception will take place on Sunday, April 2nd, from 3 - 5 PM and will include a special presentation, by founder and curator Pamela Sher.

After recent renovations, the museum will once again welcome visitors from around the world to view its renowned collection of hand fans and related artifacts. With a fresh new look, the museum will now provide a dynamic new digital learning space and discovery center. “We are thrilled to have a refreshed space with more opportunities for interactive learning for our visitors,” stated Pamela Sher.

The museum’s first new exhibit will be “Fans in Bloom,” featuring historic and modern fans from around the world depicting many varieties of flowers. As part of the museum’s educational mission, a Healdsburg student art project will be installed in the windows.

With many fans on display and over 3,000 in its collection, visitors are sure to enjoy the beautiful and varied designs created throughout history. From ancient items made from bamboo and feathers to modern works made of materials such as plastic and paper, a fan in some form appears in almost every culture. The museum collection ranges from fans used as primitive tools for fire building or keeping cool, to fans as accessories to accompany the height of modern fashion. The Hand Fan Museum is one of only four hand fan museums in the world, and the only one in North America. The others are located in London, Paris, and Hamburg Germany.
