Healdsburg’s Molti Amici Prepares to Open Last Week of June
June 26, 2023
Final touches are taking place at the much-anticipated restaurant, Molti Amici, at 330 Healdsburg Avenue. The restaurant is scheduled to open in the last week of June and will boast a new, light, and airy vibe and a menu that combines the vibrant spirit of California with the rich culinary heritage of Italy. Molti Amici, which loosely translates to "many friends" in Italian, is a gathering spot where friends and family come together to share good food, laughter, and a game of bocce ball on the back patio. Molti Amici will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm. The restaurant plans to add lunch service a few weeks following its grand opening. Reservations are recommended, but walk-in guests are always welcome. More information is available and reservations can be made at MoltiAmici.com
A Peek Inside the Restaurant and Patio
Stepping inside Molti Amici might feel a bit like stepping into a Wes Anderson movie. Owner Jonny Barr collaborated with Roy Hospitality to create a color palette that evokes the avant-garde style of the American filmmaker.
“The design of Molti Amici is as fun, courageous, and beautiful as its owner, Jonny, and his fiancée, Tiffany,” says Hannah Roy, Founder and Principal Designer at Roy Hospitality Design Studio. “The space is colorful, vibrant, and dances with uniqueness and quirk in all the right ways.”
The goal has been to pay homage to the history of the restaurant space while updating with a new, fresh look. The restaurant has a back patio that has already earned a reputation for beckoning both locals and visitors for outdoor dining, beverages, and bocce ball. Molti Amici plans to build on that reputation and make it a convivial place to spend an afternoon.
Inside, look for brighter colors on the high vaulted ceilings, patterned tiles, and new flooring, making it feel more spacious and light. A window into the kitchen gives guests a peek at the culinary team making their magic.
The Menu and Beverage Program
The menu at Molti Amici is reflective of the restaurant’s strong ties to the community. The abundance of local ingredients in Healdsburg and its surrounding areas are showcased in everything from the food to the beverage list.
Small plates include a variety of crudos ($18-$21), and locally grown, seasonal vegetables. Some highlights include a salad made of stone fruit, fennel pollen, ricotta, and watercress and an escarole salad with Bagna Cauda dressing ($14-$17). Guests will see chefs meticulously crafting Neapolitan-style pizzas, hand-rolled and extruded pasta, and other Italian-inspired dishes as they pass by the kitchen. Made-from-scratch pasta dishes include Bucatini Amatriciana with breadcrumbs ($21), or a Raviolo al’ Uovo with truffle and sage brown butter ($24). Wood-fired pizzas will be topped with a rotating variety of seasonal toppings, including a summer-inspired white pizza with squash blossom, zucchini, and ricotta ($22). Large format dishes like Spatchcock Petaluma Chicken and Bone-in Ribeye ($60-$110) will be kissed by the outdoor wood-fired oven, and meant to be shared.
The dessert menu will focus on traditional Italian favorites with punched-up flavors like panna cotta with labneh and blackberries, tiramisu with marsala, and cheesecake with amaretti ($11).
The wine program will lean toward Italian and European selections while also showcasing local Sonoma County wines. The beer selection features local, regional, and Italian favorites. Cocktails will pay homage to Italian classics such as spritzes, amaros, digestifs, and, of course, the Negroni.
The Team
Healdsburg resident and restaurant industry veteran Jonny Barr is the owner and founder of Molti Amici. His goal is to create a space that is beloved by the Healdsburg community. Barr has enlisted co-executive chefs Sean McGaughey and Melissa Yanc, fellow SingleThread alums who are equally vested in the tight-knit community of Healdsburg. McGaughey and Yanc own Healdsburg’s Quail & Condor bakery and Troubadour Bread & Bistro located across the street from Molti Amici.
In addition, Barr has hired Chef de Cuisine Matthew Cargo, a Florida native who has worked in restaurants across the country and has traveled throughout Italy studying the best techniques in making pasta and pizza. Bar Director Danielle Peters has created a thoughtful and unconventional cocktail program at Molti Amici that remains approachable.
“I am so lucky not only to realize my dream of opening this restaurant, but also to be able to do it with this outstanding culinary and front of the house team,” says owner Jonny Barr. “I cannot wait to share our food and drinks and finally open our doors!”
