Event Description:
Adela Akers' career in textile art spanned the entire history of modern fiber arts. Born in Spain in 1933, Akers was known for her innovative and daring geometric weavings. She was a professor for 23 years at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and her work is included in collections at the Smithsonian and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. "Interlacings" is an exhibition of her final and earlier works that we were honored to plan with Akers before her recent passing. The opening reception on Oct 7 will be a chance to remember and honor Akers' impactful legacy as a renowned artist and pillar of the local art community.
