Throughout the Western world, symbolic use of body imagery in relation to landscape is fundamental. It finds its roots in the art of the Renaissance with Leonardo DaVinci’s “Vitruvian Man” and the principles of proportions. The symmetry of a human body is not random, neither is the balance of a landscape. Both painter and sculptor are tasked with the careful study of their subjects to discover the natural harmony of the proportions.
