Healdsburg, CA
Why go: The crush of 2012 is a wrap, but there’s still plenty of reasons to visit Sonoma County. The leaves are turning colors, the tasting rooms are less crowded and reservations to get into the restaurants are easier than ever. Winter is the perfect time to visit the county, particularly the tiny, tony town of Healdsburg that includes scores of boutiques, gourmet retailers and wine tasting rooms centered around a public plaza.
What to do: Despite the fact that its most high-profile restaurant, Cyrus, recently closed its doors, the dining scene is as vibrant as ever, with a slew of newcomers such as Campo Fina, Bravas Bar de Tapas, Mateo’s Cocina, Taverna Sofia, Pizzandoand Spoonbar joining the ranks of old-timers such as Dry Creek Kitchen, Ralph’s Bistro and Madrona Manor.
Where to stay: The Hotel Healdsburg (owned by Charlie Palmer) and the Leed-certified H2hotel, where Spoon bar is located, are both solid options.
